Description

Coast angelica is a member of the coastal strand plant community from San Mateo County north into Oregon. It forms a low mound of oval compound leaves. The stout flower stocks rise to about five feet with one to several umbels of round bunches of tiny white flowers. Coast angelica is quite popular with pollinators, including the anise swallowtail. Coast angelica prefers well-draining soil and occasional summer water. Like other members of the carrot family, it develops a deep tap root and can be quite tolerant of dry conditions once mature. Some protection from the afternoon sun would be prudent in inland settings.
