Description

This is one of California’s cornerstone Ceanothus hybrids. The fine dark leaves are tightly bunched. The blue flowers are abundant in late winter/early spring and showcase nicely against the foliage. ‘Dark Star’ tends to grow wider then tall and appreciates full sun and well to moderate draining soil. As with all ceanothus, ‘Dark Star’ can be harmed by excessive water after it is established. Naturalizing (no supplemental water) is best once a ceanothus is established. ‘Dark Star’ is thought to be a hybrid of Ceanothus impressus and Ceanothus papillosus.
