Description
This is a naturally occurring hybrid discovered on the Sonoma coast by Roger Raiche. The species involved are thought to be Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var griseus and Ceanothus foliosus. ‘Joan Mirov’ has small dark leaves of about a half inch in length. These have an interesting texture which contributes some visual interest. The dense flowers of early spring are a deep blue. ‘Joan Mirov’ grows in a mounding form to about four feet while spreading much wider. It prefers the coastal environment of its origins, but may be maintained in interior settings with some protection from the afternoon sun and summer water. Plant ‘Joan Mirov’ on a slope with space to expand.
