Description

This selection of the popular Carmel ceanothus was taken from Sonoma County by SF Bay Area plantsman Roger Raiche in the 1980s. It grows as a mounding shrub to three feet or so with a rapidly spreading habit. The moderate height is rather rare among ceanothus. “Dark” is the best word to describe its distinct appearance. The leaves are a typical glossy green, but the flowers are exceptionally dark blue. Like all selections of the coastal griseus variety, ‘Kut Zadnik’ thrives in full sun in coastal settings but requires substantial shade protection in interior plantings.
