Description

The desert willow is commonly found in the desert regions of California and the southwest. It is named for its long, lance-shaped leaves, reminiscent of the willow tree to which it is not related. Desert willow grows in an open rounded form, eventually developing into a multi-trunked tree. With pruning it can be trained into a single trunk tree and is a wonderful candidate for a street tree. The flowers are large and tubular, somewhat like foxglove, and appear for much of the summer. The flower color of this selection is a rich burgundy/purple. Does quite well in Santa Clara County and other Bay Area locations.
