Description

Seacliff buckwheat is native to coastal regions from Monterey County south. It is a short, mounding species with dense, rounded, leaves about the size of a nickel. These are blue-green on the upper surface, white below. The spherical flower clusters are held over the foliage on short stocks. The flowers are white with a variable flush of pink. Although a coastal species, seacliff buckwheat will thrive in other parts of the state as long as progressively more shade protection and moisture are provided the further the plant is from the coast. In San Jose the plant grows vigorously in full sun in Sunset zone 15. Well-draining soil is appreciated.
