Description

This unusual groundcover occurs naturally in coastal San Diego County into Baja. It has become rare as its coastal habitat gives way to housing. San Diego poverty weed is found in seasonally wet areas. It grows as a dense green thicket to a height of about two to three feet (two feet in San Jose). the small flowers are barely noticeable. While found in seasonally moist areas it is quite drought tolerant and remains green throughout a dry summer. With supplemental water it will grow more quickly and densely, however. San Diego poverty weed spreads by layering (rooting where branches contact the ground) in the wild, but this has not occurred in my San Jose garden. Adaptable to a variety of soil types. A great choice for hillside stabilization.
