Description

The silver bush lupine is California’s most widespread perennial lupine. It is found in nearly every county in a variety of plant communities. It grows as a vase shaped shrub with silver leaves covered in spring with numerous upright flower stocks of blue, violet and white. The flowers are much-loved by various pollinators. Silver bush lupine is a host plant to a variety of butterflies and moths, such as the Boiduval’s Blue, Icaricia icarioides. It prefers a sunny location and well-draining soil. Water sparingly once established. Like many lupines, silver bush lupine needs protection from snails and slugs in the garden.
