Description

This outstanding lupine is endemic to the interior coastal mountains just north of San Francisco. Cobb Mountain is the tallest peak in the Mayacamas range in Lake County. It grows as a low mound of silvery gray palmate leaves up to about 18 inches. The leaflets are rather wide for a lupine. For several weeks in the spring, Cobb Mountain lupine sends up multiple spires of purple flowers. The deep purple against the silver leaves are quite a sight. Cobb Mountain lupine prefers well-draining soil and full sun with perhaps a little shade protection. It requires very little water once established. This is a good candidate for a large pot.
