Description

This penstemon grows wild in the Mojave and Sonora Deserts of California into the Southwest. It is part of a group of Penstemon with stiff upright stems and large lance-shaped leaves. This group - referred to as the Section Peltanthera - includes several well - known penstemon such as P. palmeri and P. spectabilis. Their form is an open shrub. The spring bloom are spires of tubular flowers ranging from rose to lavender. As the flowers fade they may be removed to stimulate a second bloom. Desert rosy penstemon prefers a well-draining site with a good deal of sun. Because its desert home receives a good deal of summer moisture, this penstemon is relatively tolerant of summer irrigation.
