Description
Western azalea is one of the few California rhododendron species. Its form is rounded and upright, with a fairly open structure. After winter dormancy the bright green leaves appear in early spring. The late-spring flowers are white with pink and yellow details, notable for their sweet fragrance. The fall colors on western azalea’s deciduous leaves are exceptional. Western azalea prefers bright partial shade and regular water. Many also recommend acidic soil as is common with azaleas. Plant in an open area with good air circulation, and avoid overhead watering.
