Description

Munz’s sage is native to a small portion of southern San Diego County and northern Baja where it is found on rocky, dry northern slopes. Although its natural range is narrow it has proven to be an adaptable sage for the garden. Munz’s sage prefers well-draining soil but will thrive in various soil types. It will survive with little water (it may lose most of its leaves with prolonged dry heat) but thrives with occasional summer water. The ‘Emerald Cascade’ selection grows in a cascading mound and looks great flowing over rocks or a wall. It does well in sunny gardens in San Jose where its lavender blooms appear in early spring.
