Description

Pink flowered currant is well-loved for its pendent clusters of white, pink, or red flowers. The shrub is rounded, and open, with dark, deeply textured leaves and peeling bark. The plant is found in shaded, fairly moist areas along the immediate coast, then further and further inland as one approaches Oregon. It appreciates moderating effects of the SF Bay, occurring in all nine surrounding counties. There are two varieties, but only the glutinosum variety is found in the trade because of its dramatic flowers. The ‘Spring Showers’ selection has particularly long flower tassels in solid pink. The pink flowered currants appreciate a fairly shady setting with occasional water.
