Description
California’s foothill penstemon has been in cultivation for several centuries and is the most popular species of Penstemon. It has especially attracted the attention of English gardeners and plant breeders. ‘Catherine de la Mare’ originated with a Richard de la Mare in the 1950s. This possible hybrid grows in a rounded form with wide, dark green leaves. The upright flower stems are covered with numerous violet flowers. Of its many strengths, ‘Catherine de la Mar’ is relatives tolerant of typical garden conditions. If the spent flowers of the first bloom are removed, another bloom may appear.
