Description

This little perennial is endemic to the coastal mountains of Santa Barbara County and the southern tip of San Luis Obispo County. Like its more widespread relative, California bee plant, black flowered figwort grows in an open form with upright stems. The dark green leaves are deltate (triangular) with toothed margins. The little flowers are dark red to nearly black with an interesting arrangement of petals. They bear a closer look. In a mass planting, the flowers can make a nice display. Plant in average soil with at least four hours of full sun.
