Description
Pine grass is a prominent grass in forests of southwestern Canada and the US Northwest. In California it grows in the Cascades, then in the Coastal Ranges through San Luis Obispo County. This cool season grower slowly covers the ground with fine, dark green blades. The appearance is somewhat similar to the ‘Molate’ strain of the popular fescue, Festuca rubra. The resulting stand is rolling and humocky. Although pine grass is naturally dormant by the end of summer, occasional water will keep it green. Pine grass is a great choice to fill spaces under the shade of trees and shrubs.
