Description

‘Everett’s Choice’ is perhaps the most popular California fuchsia. Thought to be a selection of the latifolium variety of these widespread perennials, ‘Everett’s Choice’ grows as a low, spreading mound of lance-shaped gray leaves. The large red flowers contrast brightly against this light backdrop in the later summer and fall. Like all the fuchsia, ‘Everett’s Choice’ will die back somewhat in the winter. A fresh appearance is maintained by cutting back the old growth in early winter. This fuchsia should be planted in a variety of soil types and sun exposures, though some protection from the midday sun may be helpful in inland areas. Occasional water improves the overall appearance, but ‘Everett’s Choice’ is quite drought tolerant.
