Description

‘Mound San Bruno’ coffeeberry is a low growing selection of this adaptable shrub. It grows in a rounded t mounding pattern to about six feet with narrow lance-shaped leaves and reddish gray branches. The small yellow flowers develop into large berries of red to purple. ‘Mound San Bruno’ coffeeberry will grow satisfactorily in many settings but seems to grow best with at least moderately draining soils and about six hours of sun. Protection from the afternoon sun becomes more important when coffeeberry is planted in hotter inland areas. This coffeeberry was selected on San Bruno Mountain at the northern limits of the Santa Cruz Mountains in San Mateo County. The area is botanically distinct and worth a visit.
