Description

The coastal bush lupine is one of California’s more robust lupine species. It grows in coastal settings as a dense mound of light green foliage to a height of three feet or more. The spring flowers are generally yellow, but a small population in San Mateo County displays flowers of lavender. In a sunny, well-draining site, the coastal bush lupine grows quite vigorously and the abundant seeds will readily sprout to form a large stand. Along the coast it can be invasive. In inland settings some light afternoon shade is advisable.
