Description

The scarlet monkeyflower is found in moist places throughout California into Baja. It grows as an open fountain of soft, apple-green leaves. Its relation to the dry-loving monkeyflowers is not obvious until it blooms in late spring or early summer. The flowers are red to orange and attract the attention of hummingbirds. Scarlet monkeyflower is an easy plant in partial shade with constant moisture. It will spread in time wherever moisture is available.
