Description
Wind poppies are found in foothill habitats in the coastal ranges and Sierra Nevada from the Bay Area south into Baja. It is a gentle little annual, seldom reaching more than a foot tall, with finely divided leaves and a slender flower stock of one or more orange flowers with purple centers. Wind poppies prefer partial shade and accept a variety of soil types. They produce many seeds which are held in tiny cups with small holes at the top to allow the seeds to disperse when the dried stock sways in the wind. Wind poppies may naturalize in a shady setting with minimal competition. As for all annuals, wind poppies do very well in a pot.
