Description
Royal Jacob’s ladder is a rare plant in the San Francisco Bay Area, becoming more common in Oregon and Washington. It grows in a variety of shady, moist habitats in coastal mountains. It grows in a dense spreading patch of compound leaves which drape like the fronds of a fern. For several months of spring, royal Jacob’s ladder is covered with clusters of one inch flowers of white, lavender or apricot, with yellow centers. The colors may vary significantly on the same flower cluster. A fairly shady setting with regular water is best.
