Description
This selection of pink flowered currant is perhaps the most beautiful in bloom of them all. The large pendent flower clusters (“racemes”) are a deep magenta, really as red as the flowers get in my experience. Otherwise, this selection is fairly typical for the species. It grows to a rounded shrub of about six feet tall and wide, with dark green, highly textured leaves. It appreciates some water and afternoon shade protection if grown away from the coast. The shrub is deciduous in late fall, but will quickly begin to leaf out in the cold of winter. This selection is named after arborist Barrie Coate.
