Description
The canyon sunflower grows in coastal settings from San Luis Obispo County down into Baja, Mexico. Like so many plants from the southern half of the state, it is well suited for Bay Area gardens. This cheery sunflower is as adaptable as it is beautiful. Canyon sunflower thrives in dry shade and moist sun and most everything in between. It is also adaptable to various soil types and drainages. Yellow flowers emerge in abundance in spring and early summer. Great under oaks where the Canyon Sunflower contributes color without needing excessive water. As with many plants in the sunflower family, canyon sunflower will look its best if cut back to about 12 inches in early winter.
